Happy New Year! We are kicking-off the year by sharing just some of the activities and initiatives we have planned at CBIE in 2017:
Learning Beyond Borders: A National Conversation on Learning Abroad
Reinforced borders and protectionism seem to be trending around the world. It’s becoming even more important to work together to inspire the next generation of Canadians to become global citizens. There are two ways your institution can get involved:
- Join the Learning Abroad Promotion Zone and contribute to a national communications campaign to promote the value of learning abroad.
- Join the Learning Abroad Innovation Zone to help identify and address barriers to learning abroad on your campus.
International Scholarships Program (ISP) of Global Affairs Canada
The International Scholarships Program, funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, helps advance Canadian institutions’ internationalization efforts, contributes to increasing student mobility, and serves to promote Canada as a study destination. The following competitions are currently open:
Regional Meetings x 4
Connect and strategize with colleagues at CBIE Regional Meetings this spring in Quebec, Ontario, and the Atlantic and Western regions. Stay tuned for the dates and locations.
Mentorship 4.0
The International Network for Tomorrow’s Leaders (INTL) Professional Learning Community is excited to launch the CBIE INTL Mentorship Program 4.0. Mentor and mentee matches will be paired up by the end of this month. Learn more about INTL activities.
CBIE Annual Conference
Save the date! Our 51st Annual Conference will be in Halifax. The call for proposals will launch next month.
#IEW2017
We have some exciting new ideas for International Education Week this year, in addition to our ever-popular Annual Photo Contest. If you haven’t already, check out how we marked #IEW2016 across Canada last fall.
Professional Development
Who doesn’t love the opportunity to learn new skills? This winter the CBIE Learning Centre will offer the International Students and Immigration Education Program (ISIEP) as well as Continuing Professional Development offerings for RISIA and RCIC designated professionals.
“The Lawyer of Tomorrow”
In February the CBIE Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine (QALA) team will launch an innovative lawyer training program, supporting the long term sustainability of the legal community, the legal aid system and justice sector reform in Ukraine.
Legal Innovation Zone
Later this summer the CBIE QALA team will co-launch a community-based legal innovation zone in Ukraine with Ryerson University where stakeholders can gather to innovate and address systemic barriers.
Two Missions and a Conference
- The International Partnerships team will conduct a needs assessment mission to Cross River State, Nigeria at the end of January around the development of a K-12 school in the region
- The team will also conduct an impact assessment mission to the University of Central Asia in January regarding the University’s professional development and continuing education school
