Why Present?

One of CBIE’s top priorities is to ensure that our professional development offerings represent the topics, issues, and voices that are most relevant to our membership. We can better serve the needs of the international education community by enabling members and partners to propose and facilitate webinars on topics of interest, relevance and importance to them.

Topics

We welcome webinars suitable for all audiences (introductory, intermediate and advanced) and on any topic of interest to the international education community, Topics could include:

  • Internationalization of your campus, curriculum or learning
  • Learning abroad
  • International education programs or projects
  • International student advising
  • Immigration*
  • International markets and student recruitment
  • Leadership and strategic planning in international education

*Please note: Topics that focus on immigration will be submitted to ICCRC for CPD hours.

Format
  • Webinars are 60-90 minutes in length, including 10-20 minutes for Q&A
  • 1-3 people can present and do not have to be co-located. Presenters can participate from anywhere with access to a reliable Internet connection
  • Webinars can be presented in English or French
Presenter Responsibilities

As a presenter you would be expected to:

  • Develop and deliver a compelling presentation and participate in a Q&A
  • Provide a biography and head shot to be used for promotional purposes
  • Participate in one practice webinar to familiarize yourself with the technology
CBIE’s Role
  • Promote the webinar
  • Provide the technology platform (Go-to-Webinar) and handle registration
  • Provide presenters with a PowerPoint template
  • Track webinar registrations and provide participants with all the information necessary to access the webinar
  • Train the presenter(s) on how to use the webinar platform and assist with the entire live webinar presentation
  • Moderate the webinar, including formally introducing the presenters and facilitating any Q&A and/or live polling
  • Follow up with participants for feedback purposes

CBIE is a non-profit association and as such we cannot offer an honorarium or expense reimbursement to presenters. However, facilitating a webinar will provide the following tangible benefits:

What is the timeline to submit a webinar proposal?

There may be specific calls throughout the year but we will accept webinar ideas on an on-going basis.

Who is the audience of CBIE webinars?

The typical audience that participates in our webinars is international education professionals from our member institutions across Canada. The audience tends to be diverse both geographically and in the level of experience.

What is the format of the webinars?

In what languages can webinars be presented?

We’ll accept proposals in both English and French.

Do I need to be a CBIE member to submit a webinar proposal?

No! Associates and partners of CBIE can also submit proposals. However, we will not accept proposals that are for promotional or marketing purposes only.

How do I submit a webinar proposal?

Webinar ideas are accepted through an online submission form.

May I submit more than one webinar proposal?

Yes! An individual or institution can submit more than one proposal, but each proposal must contain all the specified information to be eligible for consideration. We will review each independently.

Can I repurpose a session that I presented at the CBIE conference into a webinar?

Yes! Content that was presented at the conference can be updated and repurposed into a webinar to reach a wider audience.

If I propose an immigration related topic will it count towards CPD?

Yes! Any proposal that is immigration focused will be submitted to ICCRC for approval of CPD hours. Presenters of this type of webinar will receive CPD credits for presenting should they hold the RCIC or RISIA designation.

Do you offer compensation to webinar presenters?

Unfortunately, CBIE is a non-profit association and as such we cannot offer an honorarium or expense reimbursement to presenters. We do however offer complimentary access to one CBIE webinar through the year, depending on the number of presenters.

What are my responsibilities as a presenter?

If your proposal is selected, each presenter will be expected to develop and deliver a compelling presentation; provide a biography and head shot to be used for promotional purposes; and participate in one practice webinar to familiarize yourself with the technology.

What role does CBIE play?

CBIE will support the webinar by promoting it throughout its networks; providing the technology platform (Go-to-Webinar) and handling webinar registration; providing presenters with a PowerPoint template; tracking webinar registrations and providing participants with all the information necessary to access the webinar; training the presenter(s) on how to use the webinar platform and assisting with the entire live webinar presentation; moderating the webinar, including formally introducing the presenters and facilitating any Q&A and/or live polling; and following-up with participants for feedback purposes.

What are the benefits to me as a presenter?

As a presenter you will have access to CBIE’s platform which will enable you to advance the international education sector in Canada through knowledge sharing; grow your own reputation as a leader in the field; connect with like-minded individuals across the country and gain insight through Q&A dialogue; and amplify your institution’s visibility by showcasing your best practices and innovative programs or projects.

Will all webinar ideas be accepted?

No. Webinars will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • The proposed session presents new and high-­impact research or initiatives
  • The proposed session provides participants broadly applicable and replicable content
  • The proposed session offers inspiration, lessons, tools and new ideas which participants can apply at their institutions
  • The proposed session is well suited to a webinar format
  • The proposed session includes a diversity of perspectives and/or enhances the diversity of our webinar offerings

What are the technical requirements to present a webinar?

Participating in a CBIE webinar requires a device with an internet connection, and speakers or a headset. CBIE uses GoToWebinar. To avoid technical problems, please open the session a few minutes prior to the start of the webinar. If your device requires a plug-in to view the webinar, you will be prompted and this can be downloaded quickly.
