Alain Boutet has expertise in the planning, designing and implementation of comprehensive institutional international strategies. It was Alain’s academic background and training in Social Anthropology and Participatory Communication that first led him to the field of international education. He is currently the Executive Director of the Office of International Relations and Assistant Professor, International Development Studies at Dalhousie University. With well-rounded academic and administrative perspectives on international education, he has a lot to offer young, aspiring international education professionals.
As a past mentor for the International Network for Tomorrow’s Leaders (INTL), Alain was keen on developing the capacity of aspiring international education professionals.
When asked why he joined the mentorship program, he replied: “To have the opportunity to share experiences with young and new professionals working within offices of international relations, who are looking at strategies and policies to enhance the internationalization of their university campuses.”
Alain believes mentorship can help bring to the fore the importance of developing intercultural awareness, which is key for professional development and advancement.
One piece of advice he would give to up and coming international education professionals: “Develop good, sustained communication mechanisms, strategies and provide relevant support to key stakeholders of the institutional internationalization.”
The mission of INTL (International Network for Tomorrow’s Leaders) is to provide an environment for new professionals and emerging leaders to cultivate professional networks and engage themselves in the community of Canadian international education.
