Launching Economic Achievement Program for Women in Jordan

About the Project

The Launching Economic Achievement Program (LEAP) for Women in Jordan supports women’s economic empowerment through programming that seeks to address the high unemployment rates among Jordanian women and improvements to the enabling environment and culture regarding entrepreneurship and women in the workforce.

The project is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and managed by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) as the Canadian Executing Agency, in partnership with Ryerson University and INJAZ.

The goal of LEAP is to increase women’s empowerment for sustainable economic growth.

The Project’s intermediate outcomes include:

Increase productivity and job opportunities generated by women entrepreneurs
Reduce gender-specific barriers to women’s entrepreneurship and to women entering and remaining in the workforce.

LEAP consists of three activity components:

Establishment and operation of a business incubator focused on women-led teams;
Development, enrichment and delivery of gender sensitive-entrepreneurship curriculum and initiatives at Jordanian universities and schools, and;
Stakeholder capacity building campaign.

The three components of the project are interlinked and mutually reinforcing, as they work to bolster a cultural and institutional environment supportive of women entrepreneurs. The project guides participants from high school into the university system, into their start-up incubation and acceleration period and into the business world.
