On behalf of its 140+ member organizations, the Canadian Bureau for International Education stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and unequivocally supports their right to live in peace and to freely choose their future within their own independent and indivisible country.
CBIE has supported Ukraine’s democratic evolution for over 30 years and will continue to do so in the future. Through technical assistance projects and people-to-people initiatives, CBIE has worked closely with the Ukrainian government, educational institutions and civil society groups to build institutional capacity, modernize governance systems, improve transparency, strengthen educational linkages and make equitable access to the rights of citizenship the norm. The deep connections forged between Canada and Ukraine through international education will be maintained; we will not lessen our commitments or abandon our colleagues in their time of need.
CBIE urges our leaders, counterparts and the global community to work together to restore Ukraine’s autonomy and territorial integrity and to provide assistance to all who will be impacted by the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
