Session Overview

Now more than ever, educational institutions need to reimagine student services and experiences. This design-thinking workshop will increase the potential and performance of teams and help you discover fresh and innovative solutions to challenges in the sector.  This seven-hour training is intended for professionals who need to foster collaboration and find solutions in their educational institutions.


Learning Objectives

At the end of this training session, participants will

  • Understand design thinking principles.
  • Become familiar with different tools for working in collaborative mode.
  • Identify and grasp new opportunities and solutions for higher education institutions.
  • Change opportunities into solutions.
  • Offer one to three prototypes to a target audience.

Methodology

Several learning methods and teaching tools will be used throughout the training.

Learning goals and content

Module 1 – Design thinking and the collaborative process (1 h)

At the end of this module, participants will

  • Understand design thinking principles.
  • Master different tools for working in a collaborative mode.
  • Set their work goal.

Module 2 – Diagnose and identify the problem (1.5 h)

With the help of the consultant, participants will be led to

  • Map the problem to solve and identify the stakeholders.
  • Collect data to understand stakeholders’ needs.
  • Gather information and formulate observations.

Module 3 – Getting involved in creating an innovative project (1.5 h)

With the help of the consultant, participants will be led to

  • Outline potential solutions.
  • Experience the design thinking process and find key ideas to achieve their goal.
  • Choose the winning solutions to develop.
  • Suggest one to three prototypes.

Module 4 – Prototype their project (1.5 h)

With the help of the consultant, participants will be led to

  • Choose, from among the three prototypes suggested, the one that will be developed and tested by the target audience.
  • Prepare communication tools to present the prototype to the target audience.

Module 5 – Test and evaluate their project (1.5 h)

With the help of the consultant, participants will be led to

  • Solicit people’s feedback in order to improve or validate one of their three prototypes.
  • Think about how to concretely implement the project in their institution.

Marie-Andrée Roy

Services Conseils

Marie-Andrée Roy holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a postgraduate degree in public relations and has nearly 20 years of experience in project management and strategic support in the higher education community. She is an action-oriented person, and her creativity, versatility, and leadership have led her to build cutting-edge expertise in management, development, and the facilitating of numerous projects to “learn differently.”

In 2012, she launched the Centre de formation en développement durable or CFDD from scratch, with minimal funding and with partner support. As head of the CFDD, she designed innovative training activities, facilitated numerous working sessions, developed communication tools, and helped train hundreds of people by favouring collective intelligence and innovation. She also coordinated institutional development at Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon.

In 2020, she has chosen to embark upon the adventure of entrepreneurship by starting her own business, Marie-Andrée Roy services-conseils, in line with her passion for international stays, education, and sustainable development. She helps organizations and institutions make their sustainable development and international mobility projects a reality.
