Global Engagement in the Time of Covid: Delegations, Missions, and Visits with International Partners

26 janvier 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 1:55 pm EST

Session Overview

Join the International Relations Professional Learning Community and the University of Victoria to discuss the current and near-term status of Canadian post-secondary institutions planning in-person engagement with international partners in the context of the global pandemic.

Continued uncertainty and unpredictable changes to travel restrictions and safety advisories make it challenging for us as International Relations professionals to plan and implement these critical global engagement activities.  Yet despite the prevalence of virtual communication platforms, face-to-face meetings remain an essential means of establishing trust, facilitating dialogue, and establishing or reinforcing positive relations with key international partners.

Marc Bavin and Ruth Wax from the University of Victoria’s Global Engagement Office will lead a presentation and discussion on the results from its survey on Presidential/Executive Travel and Global Engagement Plans, which was distributed to the IR-PLC membership on December 10th, 2021.

The intent of the survey was to take the pulse of Canada’s international higher education community to see how our institutions are adjusting plans for outgoing and incoming missions, visits, and delegations by senior administrators with international partners, in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Marc and Ruth will share their analysis of the survey results, as well as insights and best practices gleaned from the data, and will lead an open conversation with participants on where we go from here.

1:00 – 1:05 Introductions
1:05 – 1:30 Survey results presentation and analysis (Marc/Ruth)
1:30 – 1:50 Group discussion (led by Marc/Ruth)
1:50 – 1:55 Closing remarks
