SUMMARY:Are You What You Measure? Developing Measures for International Mobility – An Experiential Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width= »1/1″][vc_column_text]Join the ‘Measures’ working group within the Education Abroad Professional Learning Community (EA-PLC) as they share their combined experiences about all things data. Consider this as a gift of time to dust off your data and measures hat and play in a workshop sandbox. The desire is to immerse ourselves as practitioners and scholars in a pan-Canadian conversation on data in international mobility: what data we collect\, why we collect it\, and how we even start making sense of what data to begin with. \nThrough exercises\, we’ll explore scoping\, scalability and sustainability of data so that one doesn’t lose oneself in things that don’t directly matter to the significant question. Our desire is to facilitate an opportunity for skills development in using data effectively\, leveraging the value of persuasive\, evidence-based arguments\, and taking informed risks. \nWe look forward to exploring the measures world together! \nWebinar Agenda\n\n\n\n1:00 – 1:05\nWelcome and introduction\n\n\n1:05 – 1:15\nReview of best practices and use cases\n\n\n1:15 – 1:20\nReflection: YOUR data journey\n\n\n1:20 – 1:40\nWorkshop and small gr0up activity\n\n\n1:40 – 1:55\nLarge group discussion\n\n\n1:45 – 2:00\nQ&A and wrap-up\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width= »1/1″][vc_column_text] \nPresenters\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row class= »facilitator-row »][vc_column width= »1/1″][vc_column_text] \nColin Kutchyera\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Analyst\, Lecturer and Ph.D. Student[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Colin is a Ph.D. student in Educational Leadership and Policy\, focusing on international education. DESCRIPTION:Registration Deadline: April 15\, 2024\n[vc_row][vc_column width= »1/1″][vc_column_text] \nOverview:\nApplications for dependents of international students are one of the most complex temporary residence applications in the RISIA scope of practice and ones with the highest refusal rate. Through several ATIPs and Jurisprudence cases\, we will try to determine where Visa Officers focus their attention while reviewing these applications and how this can guide the advice we can provide to our students. We will also discuss the procedure for extending the stay during the main applicant’s studies and after graduation as well as the options for a spouse of a graduate to come to Canada for the first time after the main applicant has graduated. Finally\, we will briefly review the options available for applicants after one or many refusals. \nImportant note: The content of this presentation is an updated version of the workshop of the same name offered at the CBIE 2023 Conference in Vancouver. SUMMARY:Back to the Basics – The Foundations of a Strong International Program
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width= »1/1″][vc_column_text] \nDescription\nThis session presents the findings from the guard.me and Illume Position Paper\, which examines the recent changes we are facing and outlines strategies for international educators to succeed in the future. \nWe are undoubtedly living in uncertain times. Broadly speaking\, our lives are being increasingly impacted by world events\, climate change\, and now AI. More specifically\, new\, more restrictive government policies have rocked our sector and are affecting international students’ perceptions of study abroad destinations. \nIt was natural for us to go through a period of shock when the various government announcements came through over the past few months – the cap in Canada\, the extreme tightening of the immigration system in Australia\, and the termination of most international students’ rights to bring dependants with them in the UK. Hundreds and hundreds of institutions and agents have been affected\, and thousands of prospective students are having their visas rejected or rethinking their study plans – or both. \nBut the shock needs to give way to strategic thinking. It isn’t time to hunker down and wait it out. It’s time to acknowledge that the operating environment has changed—whether we like it or not—and realize that there are opportunities as well as challenges. \nThis session will cover the following relevant themes: \n\nRefining your branding and positioning. What do you do best\, how is it different and compelling\, and how well are you communicating your strengths?\nStrengthening your admissions and recruiting functions and the coordination between all team members and systems. This is a time for efficiency\, clear expectations\, and effective processes.\nTaking on more responsibility as an institution to boost visa approvals.\nProviding superior support to prospective students and agents in terms of what they need to do to apply\, meet deadlines\, increase the likelihood of approval\, etc.\nRolling out your welcome mat to prospective students better than ever and supporting your current students in every aspect of their life\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nPresenters\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row class= »facilitator-row »][vc_column width= »1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width= »3/4″][vc_column_text]Clark Hortsing [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Vice President\, Strategic Partnerships[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]guard.me International Insurance[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]With almost 30 years in international education I have seen the sector grow and develop. He prides himself on providing practical assistance to the clients he works with that ultimately helps them achieve their internationalization goals.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
