SUMMARY:The Immigration Journey of Spouses and Dependent Children of International Students: Eligibility\, Application\, Challenges and Options
DESCRIPTION:Registration Deadline: April 15\, 2024\n[vc_row][vc_column width= »1/1″][vc_column_text] \nOverview:\nApplications for dependents of international students are one of the most complex temporary residence applications in the RISIA scope of practice and ones with the highest refusal rate. In this webinar\, we will analyze the different options available in the legislation for dependents of international students\, the challenges they face and how to determine which option is best for whom. We will look at who is eligible to apply for a C42 and the options for those who are not. \nWe will discuss which documents and what information should be included in a template application and how to adapt this template to the personal circumstances of each individual/family. Through several ATIPs and Jurisprudence cases\, we will try to determine where Visa Officers focus their attention while reviewing these applications and how this can guide the advice we can provide to our students. We will also discuss the procedure for extending the stay during the main applicant’s studies and after graduation as well as the options for a spouse of a graduate to come to Canada for the first time after the main applicant has graduated. Finally\, we will briefly review the options available for applicants after one or many refusals. \nImportant note: The content of this presentation is an updated version of the workshop of the same name offered at the CBIE 2023 Conference in Vancouver. It includes all the changes made by IRCC since. A French version of the webinar will be offered in person at the Québec Regional Meeting in Montréal in May 2024. \nThis webinar was approved by CCIC for 4 hours of continued professional development (CPD). \n\nLearning Objectives:\n\nUnderstand the relevant sections of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) related to dependants of international students.\nLearn how to help students and their dependants build strong applications.\nUnderstand how to address potential concerns that processing officers may have when assessing applications from dependants of international students.\n\nSession 1 – April 17 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm (ET):\n\nWelcome and introductions\nKey definitions\nEligibility\nWhat would be the content of a template application and how to adapt this template to individual cases.\n\nHow to prove the Status in Canada of the principal applicant\nHow to prove the Genuineness of the eligible relationships\nHow to prove the Financial Resources required\nHow to prove Ties to Home Country\nCover letters and invitation letters; are they necessary?\nSpecific cases\n\n\nWork permit options available for spouses who do not meet the new eligibility criteria for C42.\nQ&A and discussion\n\nSession 2 – April 24 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm (ET):\n\nWelcome and introductions\nSummary of the previous session\nOptions as to when and where to submit the first application\n\nOnline or at the port of entry\nAt the same time as the Principal applicant or separately\n\n\nExtensions of stay from within Canada\n\nWhen the Principal applicant extends their studies\nAfter the Principal applicant graduates\nWhat happens when the Principal applicant stops studying\n\n\nApplication for a spouse outside of Canada after the Principal applicant graduates\nPractical component – Activity to put the knowledge into practice\nOptions in case of refusal\nKey takeaways\nQ&A and discussion\nConcluding remarks\n\nContact learning@cbie.ca if you have any questions regarding the webinar and/or your registration.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nPresenter\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row class= »facilitator-row »][vc_column width= »1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width= »3/4″][vc_column_text]Patrick Bissonnette [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]International Students Advisor[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Université Laval[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Patrick Bissonnette is passionate about immigration\, international education\, and intercultural understanding and has been involved in the field for almost 20 years.
