After having secured a CsF Scholarship and been accepted by a Canadian university into a program of study in Canada, successful candidates should start the process of obtaining a study permit, work permit and visa as soon as possible. You must apply for these documents from Brazil as they will be needed when you arrive in Canada.
Please consult the following Government of Canada websites to access the relevant information and documents related to your permits and visa applications:
All Canada-Brazil CsF students require a study permit, a work permit and a visa. In order to streamline the process CsF students need only apply for a visa and study permit, and do not need to submit a separate work permit application.
CsF students studying in Canada for more than six (6) months are required to undergo a medical examination with an approved doctor. Students are advised to wait until after they submit their visa application and they receive the instructions from the Canadian Consulate before undergoing the required medical exam.
CsF students who will study in the Canadian province of Quebec also need to obtain a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ). For more information on how to obtain a Quebec Acceptance Certificate, please consult the Immigration et Communautés Culturelles Québec website. Students should not wait for the CAQ to be issued before applying for their study permit at the Canadian consulate.
What you need to submit your application for the study permit and visa
In order to complete your study permit and visa application, you will need your Letter of Acceptance from your Canadian host university and your Confirmation of Scholarship letter from the Brazilian government. CBIE will issue an interim Confirmation of Scholarship and you can submit this initially and send your letter from the Brazilian government at a later date. Your Letter of Acceptance from the Canadian university should contain the start and end date of your stay in Canada and information about your internship. It should also specify if you will need language training and for how long. Should your Letter of Acceptance not contain all of the necessary information, please contact CBIE right away.
What if there is an error in terms of key personal data?
If you find any errors in the documents you have received from your Canadian institution or from CNPq (such as the incorrect spelling of your name, address or date of birth), please inform the issuing party as soon as possible. Failure to correct an error in a document required to obtain your study permit, your work permit or your visa could jeopardize the process.
