Welcome to the Libyan - North American Scholarship Program website!

The Libyan - North American Scholarship Program is a joint collaboration between the Libyan Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, the Canadian Bureau for International Education, Libyan students and host universities in Canada and the United States. The Program is funded by the Libyan Government, involving approximately 2,000 Libyan students pursuing graduate and postgraduate medical studies on both sides of the 49th parallel. CBIE assumed responsibility for the management of the Scholarship Program in Canada on January 4, 2010 and in the United States on February 1, 2010.

The goal of the Scholarship Program is to facilitate the studies of Libyan graduate and postgraduate students in North America, allowing them to fulfill their academic objectives while addressing the needs of Libyan public institutions, academia, and society as a whole.

This site contains general information about the Program as well as information for students and North American educational institutions.

Program History

CBIE and Canada have long played a role in ensuring the education of Libyan students. Over the past 30 years, CBIE has been either directly or indirectly involved with the Libyan Ministry of Education and Scientific Research. For 20 years, from 1981 to 2001, CBIE successfully managed the Libyan Scholarship and Medical Residency Program in Canada, which was then turned over to the newly established Embassy of Libya in Ottawa. Due to the growing scope of the program and based on the government’s positive prior experience with CBIE, as well as CBIE’s depth and breadth of knowledge and experience in the North American education system, the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research chose CBIE to manage the Program once again. In October 2009 the Ministry signed an agreement with CBIE to manage the Libyan North-American Scholarship Program in Canada and in the United States.
